Direct answer

Keil Electric restores customer-side power across San Diego County and the Austin metro after panel failures, service entrance damage, water damage, and post-utility-event inspections. We diagnose the failure, repair the customer-side equipment, coordinate utility reconnect, and verify safe re-energize.

02 - HOW THIS WORKS

How electrical power restoration works.

When this is the call

Power is out at your property but the utility says service is normal. Possibilities: tripped main breaker (rare but possible), failed main breaker, service entrance damage you cannot see (mast pulled, weatherhead damaged, neutral failed), or major panel failure. We diagnose customer-side.

Diagnosing customer-side faults

We test voltage at the meter, the main breaker, and the panel bus. We isolate where the loss originates: utility-side (their problem), service entrance (our work to repair), main breaker (replace), or downstream panel issue. The diagnostic narrows the work area in minutes.

Coordinating with the utility

Some restoration work requires utility disconnect for safety (anything touching the service entrance, meter socket, or service entrance conductor). We schedule the cut and reconnect, complete the customer-side repair during the disconnect window, and the utility reconnects after inspection if required.

Water damage and storm restoration

Flooded panels are not safely re-energized without inspection and remediation. Water-damaged panels often need replacement (the bus bars and breakers do not safely tolerate water exposure). We assess, document for insurance, and rebuild as needed.

03 - PROCESS

Our process

01

Diagnose

Our crew tests voltage at the meter, main breaker, and panel to localize the failure.

02

Scope and quote

Written restoration scope, with utility coordination and inspection included if required.

03

Repair

Make the customer-side repair: main breaker replacement, service entrance repair, panel work.

04

Energize and verify

Restore power, test under load, document the work for insurance or the customer file.

  Permits

Permits and inspections

Not every job requires a permit. When the local AHJ requires one, we pull it, schedule the inspection, and stay with the job until it passes. No paperwork on you.

  Warranty

What's covered

Written warranty: 5-year on outlets, fixtures, and EV chargers; 10-year on wire and breakers; lifetime on panelboxes and surge protection. Parts and labor. Transfers with the home.

  Safety

What we check before recommending a fix

Total power loss without utility cause means a customer-side failure: blown main breaker, service entrance damage, panel failure, or major fault. We diagnose before re-energizing.

05 - WHO TO HIRE

Why hiring a licensed electrician matters.

For electrical power restoration, here's the honest comparison. We'd tell you the same thing if we weren't trying to win the job.

Keil Electric

A licensed electrician

Licensed electrician walks every job. Veteran-owned, family-run.
Permits pulled and inspections coordinated when required by the AHJ
5/10-year + lifetime warranty in writing. Parts and labor. Transfers with the home.
Fully insured + workers' comp on every crew
The price you sign is the price you pay
A handyman

Unlicensed for electrical

No state electrical license. Can do simple swaps but not panel work, rewires, or service upgrades.
No permits. Work won't pass inspection if the city audits it later.
No structured warranty. "Call me if something breaks" isn't enforceable.
If something they did causes a fire, your homeowner's insurance can deny the claim.
Cash discount may show up on the invoice.
DIY

Doing it yourself

Cheap, but only if everything goes right. Most electrical work involves load calc, code, and permitting.
A failed inspection means redoing the work. Selling the home later, the buyer's inspector flags it.
No warranty if something fails. Replacement is on you.
Live wiring is a real safety hazard. Most fatal home electrical accidents are DIY.
If you know what you're doing, fine. If you don't, call us first.
06 - BEFORE YOU CALL

How to know when it is time, and what to expect.

When to bring us in for electrical power restoration

Most electrical power restoration calls fall into one of three patterns: a single component failed and the symptom is obvious, a slowly degrading connection finally tripped or stopped working, or a previous repair (yours, a handyman, or a prior contractor) was never quite correct and the underlying issue surfaced again. If the symptom involves smoke, sparks, burning smell, or a panel that is hot to the touch, do not wait. Call the local shop. Active hazards get same-day dispatch when capacity allows. Routine repairs go on the next-available slot, usually inside the same week.

What we look at on the first visit

The first 20 to 30 minutes is observation and diagnosis: walk the symptom with you, check the panel for related issues, trace the affected circuit, identify the actual root cause rather than the easy answer. Most electrical power restoration issues sit somewhere other than where the symptom shows up (lights flicker because of a loose connection at the panel, an outlet stops working because of a backstab failure on the next outlet downstream). The diagnostic is the actual job, the price reflects that. We write the scope after the diagnosis, not before.

Power restoration is some of the most time-sensitive work we do. The customer is without power, the food in the fridge is at risk, the home office is offline. We diagnose quickly, scope the repair, and execute. The post-storm restoration calls especially after major weather events are high-volume and we triage by hazard severity.

Common questions about electrical power restoration

Is this a utility issue or a customer-side issue?

If your neighbors have power and you do not, it is customer-side. Call your utility first to confirm there is no service-side issue. Then call us.

How fast can you restore power?

Same-day diagnostic when capacity allows. Repair speed depends on the scope: a tripped main breaker is minutes, a service entrance repair is hours plus utility coordination, a Panel Upgrade is a day.

Will my insurance cover this?

Storm or water damage to the service entrance or panel is usually a covered peril. We provide documentation including photos, scope, and written invoice for the claim.

Can I just reset my main breaker?

Trying to reset a failed main breaker is generally safe (it will not turn on) but a main breaker that has tripped is signaling a fault. Stop trying to reset it and call us.

Do you handle insurance claims?

We do not handle the claim directly with the carrier. We provide the documentation (scope, photos, invoice) for you to submit. Some carriers pay us directly with your authorization.

08 - REQUEST

No power on the customer side?

A licensed electrician diagnoses the failure, scopes the restoration, and coordinates with the utility for reconnect when required.
