When to bring us in for smart home installation
Most smart home calls start when the tech has outgrown the setup: a pile of apps and remotes you want unified, a renovation or new build where the wiring can go in clean, or a house that is smart in three rooms and dumb everywhere else. The earlier we walk it, the better the result. Bringing us in before the drywall closes means keypad, sensor, and network runs go inside the walls, and we can add the neutral wires smart switches need while the boxes are open. We are happy to plan a system at the design stage even if the install is still months out.
What we look at on the first visit
A walk of the home with attention to where you want control, keypads, thermostats, locks, and scenes, plus the network that has to carry it, the switch boxes (many older homes lack the neutral a smart switch needs), and the wiring paths through attic, crawlspace, and open walls. Where a run has to cross a finished wall, we find the cleanest path before we cut. The estimate we leave with is fixed for the scope as walked; change orders only happen for genuinely new findings, and you hear about them before we proceed.
Austin: Most days we're already in the area. Same-day appointments when capacity allows. After-hours emergencies dispatched when a licensed electrician is available, a real person at the local shop answers and tells you the ETA on the call.

What is different about smart home installation & automation in Texas.
Some of what we do for smart home installation & automation is shaped by the codes and conditions specific to Texas. Here is what tends to differ versus other states.
Code adoption in Texas
Texas adopts the National Electrical Code at the state level through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, with most cities in the Austin metro adopting the most recent NEC cycle within a year or two of publication. Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, and the other cities we cover each maintain their own permitting offices with slightly different inspection scheduling and form workflows. We track which cycle each AHJ in our coverage area is currently enforcing, so the scope we write for a job in Round Rock is current to that city, not just current to "Texas." When a project crosses jurisdictions or sits in unincorporated county, we route the permit through the correct authority and tell you upfront which inspection cadence applies.
Hot-climate considerations
Summers across the Austin metro run long and hot, and that affects smart home installation & automation in ways that are easy to underestimate. Panels mounted on west-facing exterior walls run hotter all afternoon. Attic-mounted equipment derates per code because ambient attic temperatures regularly clear 130°F. AC compressors pull near-rated current for hours at a stretch through July and August, which puts more thermal cycling on terminations than the same equipment would see in a milder climate. We size conductors and breakers with that summer load profile in mind, not just the nameplate minimum. On older homes we look closely at terminations that may have loosened from years of heat cycling, those are a common cause of intermittent issues that get misdiagnosed elsewhere.
Severe weather and storm response
The metro sees thunderstorm hail, the occasional derecho, and the post-storm spike in generator and surge-protection demand that comes with each event. We keep enough surge-protection inventory at the shop to swap out a damaged whole-home unit same-day after a strike, and we know which generator and transfer-switch SKUs are realistic to source quickly when the supply chain tightens after a regional event. After the 2021 winter storm we also got a lot more careful about which loads customers actually need on backup, versus which loads end up on the generator only because nobody asked the question at install time.

Common questions for Smart home installation across the Austin metro.
Will one app control everything?
Yes — a Control4 or Savant hub gives you one interface for lights, climate, locks, and audio across the Austin metro, not five separate apps.
Do smart switches work without a neutral wire?
Sometimes not in older homes. As licensed electricians we can run a neutral, which an AV-only installer cannot. We check during the walk.
What happens during a power outage?
Core wiring reverts to manual; the automation returns with power. We can add battery backup or generator integration for critical systems.
Can I start small and expand?
Yes — we scope a system that grows. Start with lighting and climate, add shades and audio later onto the same hub.
Do you program it or just install hardware?
Both. We install, program the scenes, and walk you through it. Licensed TX #40645, call (888) 442-5345.
